Open Social Networks

I’m sure just about everyone has a few accounts to social networking sites they don’t use, but need those accounts just to monitor and comment on the blogs of a few friends.   These sites are great for building tight-knit communities, but they are also quite insular.  And the fact of the matter is that most people can’t be bothered to maintain a blog on 8 or 9 different sites.

Well it looks like the founder of LiveJournal is trying to address that.  His open network idea is still in it’s conception stage, but hopefully within the next year it will be real enough to start poking holes in the screens that the many social networking sites have dividing them.

There is now a number of functions that you can apply to the tasks you have selected by clicking on the check boxes

  • you can close and forward all selected tasks
  • you can assign existing tags and create new tags to all selected tasks
  • you can set and remove milestones for all selected tasks
  • you can configure the layout of the extended task list

Select Projects and Milestones & Tasks

The select box in the left side bar was a bit clumsy and also a bit too disconnected visually from the project. You will find a new button called “Select Milestones & Tasks” above the list of tasks. Clicking on it will display an input frame where you can set your selection criteria.

The very first thing you should see after logging into Actionize is the Dashboard. There we have the following dropdown sections:

My unread alerts:

By default you receive an alert after someone has assigned a task to you i.e. you have become the owner of a task. You can set alerts to come up in “My Account” for all projects. They can be set up to alert you for individual specifications on each account and task, giving you a varying degree of control and monitoring you will need depending on the individual requirements of the project.

You can tell us when exactly to notify you. You may choose to be alerted:

Additionally these alerts may be tied to your RSS feeds, giving you the updates you need on the go without the need to constantly login to monitor the project’s progress.

My urgent tasks:

In this section we show you all tasks that are marked “to do soon” which is the same as ASAP but that have no exact deadline for completion or period in which it is completed.

My calendar tasks:

In this section we show you all the tasks that are marked as “to do until” where the date indicates a deadline for completion or that are marked as “to do at” where the “form-to-date” indicates a period in which the task should be completed such as appointments or trainings and the like.
